Gesellschaft fuer technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ)

The GTZ was established in 1975. It is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. It provides viable, forward-looking solutions for political, economic, ecological and social development in a globalised world. GTZ promotes complex reforms and change processes, often working under difficult conditions. Its corporate objective is to improve peoples living conditions on a sustainable basis.

GTZ main focus is on Technical Cooperation. Far from being only centred on transferring technical knowledge, this primarily involves communicating knowledge that enables people to shape their present and future on their own. For this, GTZ strengthen individual initiative and the capabilities of people and organisations, and lay the basis for stable development for future generations as well.

GTZ employs ICTs in German Development Cooperation as a tool to enhance the effectiveness of its activities. Whether ICTs are used for optimising working procedures, for communication and networking or for providing information quickly and at low cost nowadays they have a crucial role to play in many projects.

GTZ has many years of experience both in the use of ICTs in Development Cooperation and in cooperation with technology-oriented partners from the private sector. Since 2000, GTZ has implemented 150 projects with an ICT focus of which around 40 have been in collaboration with the private sector.
