ASIA NETWORKING IN SUPPORT OF DEVELOPMENT ONLINE COURSE - just finished

1 - 12 December 2008

This course is designed to provide an overview of how information and communication technology (ICT) can be used as both a media and a means of communications and how to overcome the barriers to use, particularly in rural areas. The course learning goals are as follows:

  • Understanding how to plan a communications strategy that uses both old and new media
  • Understanding the different technologies available and how they will change in the future
  • Applying an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different technologies in a project context
  • Understanding how policy and regulation can create barriers to ICT use and how to overcome them by working with others

The course was conducted by Dr. Alexander G. Flor (Sandy), Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies, University of the Philippines (Open University). The course was delivered in four sessions over ten days from Monday 1 December to Friday 12 December, 2008. Each session required the completion of interactive lessons, the completion of assignments, and participation in discussion forums. Satisfactory fulfillment of these requirements qualifies the participant to receive a Certificate of Completion bearing the FAO and UP Open University seals.

All community members are invited to take the course at their own pace, and others, available for free at IMARK.
