A recent World Summit on the Information Society event focused on the adaptation the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative into a One Laptop Per Farmer (OLPF) variant. In providing XO laptops for farmers in isolated third-world communities, the OLPF is intended to help these farmers compete in the global market by allowing them to research market prices, share effective agricultural techniques, and develop an understanding of new technologies. If successful, this program will provide farmers with a vital element for success- the power of knowledge. Click here to access the full audio presentation from May 2008. Panelists included representatives from CTA, FAO, Katalyst, OLPC, and Microsoft.
