Mobile Applications: Helping Agriculturalists Make Better Decisions

With the support of the Department of Primary Industries, an innovative project was recently undertaken in Victoria, Australia exploring the development of smartphone applications and their possible acceptance in agriculture. The resulting report addresses some of the challenges and opportunities in creating and implementing such an application for the agricultural market.

The report concludes that technology is critical for our ability to successfully meet future agriculture demands, thus more testing and advocacy is needed to explore the potential of mobile applications and smartphones to contribute to the transformation in this industry. The report additionally recommends that collaboration is needed between software developers, government, and members of the agriculture sector to determine how mobile applications can be successful and how demand can be created.
