The Young Professionals Platform for Agricultural Research for Development (YPARD) serves as a medium for young professionals (YPs) in Agricultural Research for Development (ARD) to voice their views, exchange perspectives and develop themselves into better ARD professionals.
YPARD has four strategic objectives: 1) to facilitate exchange of information and knowledge among young professionals across disciplines, professions, age and regions; 2) to broaden opportunities for young professionals to contribute to strategic ARD policy debates; 3) to promote agriculture among young people, and 4) to facilitate access to resource and capacity building opportunities.
We are looking for a Web and Communications Officer to help us fulfil these objectives
Web and Communications Officer. Based in Rome
Manage the YPARD website, making it user friendly, more interactive and up-to-date with the latest events, news and blogs;
Develop innovative, web based events for YPARD members using a range of multimedia;
Provide opportunities for and support volunteers to implement region-specific web-based events;
Provide support to the three YPARD regions in highlighting their achievements in a web-based format;
Support the development of YPARD as a hub for youth and agriculture organisations through linkages and collaborations with other organisations online;
Increase the number of active members in the network and encourage greater online participation.
Facilitate the production of a quarterly e-newsletter and bi-annual print version with news from the YPARD regional units;
Respond to requests for information/support by YPARD;
Provide support for regional reporting and communications documents.
Assist with organising workshops and meetings;
Assist in the development and administration of budgets;
General administrative duties where required.
The web and communications officer reports to the YPARD coordinator and will provide additional support to the coordinator where required
Requirements for the position
- At least 2 years previous work experience in web development, communications and administration;
- Experience in organising online events and mobilising online communities;
- Understanding of International Agricultural Research and Development issues;
- Good administrative skills with understanding of budgets;
- BSc/BA and preferably an MSc in development, natural resources management, agronomy, or related subjects;
- Proficiency in English (proven ability to write articles and reports). Knowledge of French or Spanish is an asset;
- Capable to work independently and able to deliver with respect to deadlines.
The position offers interesting and challenging work and an opportunity to be innovative and creative in the field of Agricultural Research for Development. This consultancy is remunerated at a level of $3,500 per month, for 11 months. All relocation expenses must be borne by the consultant.
