e-Agriculture Webinar : How mobile phones changed water irrigation in India

Join us as we discuss the remote control of water pumps with mobile phones in India with Santosh Ostwal - the man behind the award winning innovation Nano Ganesh.

Nano Ganesh is a mobile-based remote controller for water pumps. Remote control for irrigation is an innovation for smallholder farmers to help them overcome challenges like erratic power, irregular water supply, dangerous travel as well as waste of energy resources, water and time.

Santosh Ostwal, is an electrical engineer, innovator and entrepreneur at Nano Ganesh and he will share his 25 years journey of rural ICT experience during the webinar where he will explain the challenges he faced in the development of Nano Ganesh and its implementation and how to overcome them.

Ongoing and upcoming activities of the Community

Ongoing: e-Forum discussion on ICTs and Open Data in Agriculture and Nutrition

There is an on-going debate by members of the e-Agriculture Community of Practice (CoP), graced by a number of experts and moderators, are discussing ICTs and Open Data in Agriculture and Nutrition.

This discussion explores what benefits and possible losses that can accrue to farmers if technology and open data are used conjunctively. So far, we have received about 30 contributions addressing the topic from different angles.

Upcoming: e-Forum discussion on the Agricultural Open Data Package – AgPack

The Agriculture Open Data Package (AgPack) is a resource designed for governments to take steps in publishing open data they have generated or collected. The AgPack is still in its beta version, and the purpose of this discussion is to reach out to policy-makers, researchers, open data experts, and agriculture experts to get their feedback on the AgPack and its usability. The AgPack can be read here. Provide feedback by joining this discussion.

Upcoming: e-Agriculture webinar presenting the Agricultural Open Data Package

In order to launch the AgPack forum discussion and to give users an over view of it, before the discussion two webinars will be available for participants to learn more about the AgPack. The webinar will be presented by Andre Jellema from Data Impact - and he is also the moderator of the AgPack e-Forum discussion.
