The e-Agriculture Newsletter is part of a global initiative to enhance sustainable agricultural development and food security by improving the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). e-Agriculture is a Community of more than 8,900 members from over 160 countries and territories.

 E-AGRICULTURE COMMUNITY RECEIVES THE WSIS PROJECT PRIZE 2012 

 
The e-Agriculture Community received a prestigious award from the organizing body of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), called the WSIS Project Prize. Given at the WSIS Forum 2012, the award recognizes the Community’s important role in the ICT for development field.
 
 
 
 

 ICT AND AGRICULTURE IN THE CONTEXT OF GREEN GROWTH AT RIO+20

 
The conclusions and recommendations of the recent e-Agriculture, World Bank and FAO sponsored forum on "ICT and agriculture in the context of  Green growth" was presented at Rio+20, during the side event "ICTs: the foundation of our sustainable future". The issues identified by the Community in this discussion highlight the important role ICT has to play in sustainable agriculture and food production, and were well received by the Rio+20 audience.  FORUM SERIES ORGANIZED BY THE WORLD BANK AND E-AGRICULTURE

 
 
The World Bank and e-Agriculture are organizing a series of global online discussions grounded in the ICT in Agriculture Sourcebook. These forums seek inputs from practitioners, to raise awareness of the ICT4ag projects/programs of the Community’s members (like you!), and to expand on the Sourcebook resources. After each forum a summary is being made of the key issues, good practices, and case studies identified during the discussion. These are the latest publications and activities:
 

 CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAPTURING IMPACT 

 
The Policy Brief "Challenges and Opportunities for Capturing Impact in ICT Initiatives in Agriculture" is now available in Spanish and French. The document is the result of the forum organized by Katalyst and e-Agriculture last year, which discussed the present practices and critical issues (regarding both implementation and monitoring) of ICT initiatives in agriculture. (The English version was previously announced.)
 
 
 

 BRIDGING THE RURAL DIGITAL DIVIDE 

 
The content of an FAO strategic programme entitled "Bridging the Rural Digital Divide" has been moved to e-Agriculture. Launched in 2003, the programme highlights early innovative approaches to knowledge exchange through digital technologies.
